Ben Stokes retires from ODI cricket, 'Thanks for winning World Cup'

 England cricket team's famous all-rounder and test team captain Ben Stokes has announced his retirement from ODI cricket.

On Monday, Ben Stokes announced his retirement from ODI cricket on social networking website Twitter.

Ben Stokes has said that 'as difficult as it was a decision, it was not more difficult than not being able to give my hundred percent to my team in this format, it is no longer possible for me to play in all three formats.

Due to the tight schedule, not only my body is leaving me now, but I also feel that I am replacing a player who can fully support captain Jos Buttler and the team.

Ben Stokes has also announced that Tuesday's ODI against South Africa in Durham will be the last ODI of his career.

He further said that he now wants to concentrate on Test cricket and now feels that he can fully commit to the T20 format.




Ian Stokes has played 104 matches in his ODI career, in which he has scored 2919 runs at an average of 39.

The most memorable innings of Ben Stokes' ODI career is considered to be the match-winning innings against New Zealand in the final of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, where he scored 84 runs off 98 balls on a difficult pitch to win England the World Cup.

After Ben Stokes announced his retirement from ODI cricket, tributes are pouring in on social media website Twitter and microblogging app Instagram.


Indian cricket team's superstar batsman Virat Kohli has commented on Instagram and said, 'Of all the people I have played against, you are the most capable man, respect.'


Pakistani cricketer Shadab Khan says, "Congratulations on a wonderful career Ben Stokes, best wishes for Test career and remaining responsibilities, you will be missed in ODI cricket."


"Thank you for winning us the World Cup, let's see where you take the Test team now," wrote a user called InActive.

It should be noted that the first match of the three-match ODI series between England and South Africa will be played at Chester-Lee Street, Durham, which will be the last ODI of Ben Stokes' career.
